Michael Airhart is a native of Baton Rouge, a graduate of LSU and is married to Kristen Richardson Airhart.
He is a past President of the Louisiana Mortgage Lenders Association for 2001- 2003. He is the former Legislative Chairman for the Louisiana Mortgage Lenders Association for five years. He is a former member of the Residential Mortgage Lending Advisory Board to the Commissioner of the Office of Financial Institutions. He was instrumental in drafting and passing the Residential Mortgage Lending Act of 1999, RMLA. At that time, the RMLA legislation became the Model State Statute for the US. Many states modeled their legislation after the Louisiana Residential Mortgage Lending Act of 1999. The Association's goal with the legislation was to improve the professional standards of the mortgage lending industry.
He is a former Delegate Council member for Louisiana to the National Association of Mortgage Brokers. He is the former Chairman of the Communications Committee for the National Association of Mortgage Brokers. He served as the Chairman of the Single Family Mortgage Revenue Bond Program. He has served as a member on the Affiliate Board of the Greater Baton Rouge Board of Realtors. He has passed the Certified Residential Mortgage Specialist exam by the National Association of Mortgage Brokers and has maintained the designation since certification.
He was appointed by Governor Bobby Jindal as the Mortgage Industry representative to the Louisiana Housing Finance Agency. He has served in various leadership roles at LHFA. He has passed the Federal National Mortgage Licensing Examination developed by the Conference of State Banking Supervisors and the National Mortgage Licensing System in July 2010. He was appointed President of the Louisiana Mortgage Lenders Foundation in 2010 by the Board of the Louisiana Mortgage Lenders Association. The Foundation mission serves to teach First Time Homebuyer Education to potential homebuyers in Louisiana.
In January 2012, he was appointed by Speaker of the House Chuck Kleckley to the Board of Directors of the newly created Louisiana Housing Corporation.
